You know how all 1950s era-sitcoms have that episode where the wife (who is afraid of outside) comes face to face with an evil, evil door-to-door salesman, who proceeds to con her into buying all kinds of stuff she/the family doesn't need (not can't afford, money is never really a problem, just a bother) then the husband has to teach her about will power? Yeah, I need one of those will power lessons. The nephew, who is the awesome, was born one year ago 15 days from now (the 30th for those keeping score), so in accordance with tradition I went to Toys R Us to get him a gift, with only basic ideas in mind. I wanted to get him two things. 1.) Something educational, preferably to help him with his letters and b.) a toy car, he loves his toy cars. I had the idea that there may be, though probably only age rate for 3+, some kind of primitive remote control vehicle for him, which would just blow his mind. Turns out, BAM, they actually have some for two year olds. They only have two buttons (forward and backward/turn) and the box says it only has a range of like 20'', but that should be plenty. I actually had a few to chose from, so that was nifty. Then for the educational toy, man, I wish they had this stuff when I was a kid. I got his this plastic...thing...with a magnet on the back so you can put it on the refrigerator and it has on the front slots to put in smaller, also magnet, letters. Put the letter in and it sings a little song to tell the kid the name of the letter and the sounds it makes. The one I got is in English, but they also had Spanish and bilingual English and Spanish. I considered getting the bilingual one, but since no one can help him with that it would have been pretty pointless. So then I'm walking out the door, having spent $40, which it about 10-15 more than I'd guessed I would ahead of time, and wandered through the aisle of Nickelodeon based toys. In there were toys for Go, Diego, Go!, which after Noddy is the nephew's favorite show. and what kind of toy is it? Toy car, with Diego action figure. Ask yourself, is there ANY chance I'm not walking out of Toys R Us with that thing? Luckily it was only about $10. So I'm standing in line, waiting to pay and notice the R/C car says it needs, but doesn't have, batteries. It would be a real dick move not to give them with the toy. Rechargeable AA batteries are freakin' expensive! ![]()
